02:43 pm: violence
A European draws mohammed as a terrorist! That makes all Europeans evil!
A small proportion of Angry muslims get violent! That makes all muslims evil!

What exactly is the difference between adults and beligerent teenagers again?

I've been pretty upset by all this, not sure what to make of it. I do realise it's a minority making the rest look bad though, please don't flame me.

Update: if you look hard enough at the news, you will find some articles saying exactly how minor the beligerent minority is... I guess it's partly a matter of the press having no sense of proportion either.

I personally blame the person who thought deliberately printing provocative pictures with so much tension in the air was agood idea... Great plan there(!)

I think the only solution is to create a parallel universe & jump into it leaving the stupid people behind to wipe themselves out!

I dunno - if I could find me a parallel universe, it would be tempting. Gotta make sure you remember your home coordiantes though, otherwise you'd end up in an episode of sliders.

(a) to you or I yes, but remember they were attacking a fundamental belief (whether it's right or wrong to us doesn't matter, or shouldn't. Attacking someone's belief for the sake of attacking their belief is just morally wrong. And as far as I can tell that's what happened. arguing with someone from a personal view point, fine. saying they don't like this so I shall do it anyway because I can... when did that become right?) <- & why was that lot in bracket?! too much wine!

(b) true... but deliberately tauting a known murderer? when was that a sensible course of action?! I'm not saying either side was right.. they were both wrong. I just have no sympathy for they guy who put his hand in the fire & expected it not to burn. (ps by side I meant - idiot who put em in the paper & idiots who retaliated with violence/threats)

(c) why do you think I haven't already? lol

PS - apologies to James for hijacking his journal for this rant... it's been bugging me since people first started commenting on this! *hugs*

I was kinda refering to all the terrorists masquerading as religious extremists.

Sorry, I was in a rather strange mood last night!

... to try to summarise my thoughts more coherently: arguing about beliefs is fine. But from what I heard (I've not checked) the newspaper did it simply because they could.... this strikes me as a bad reason to poke at beliefs... Debating a belief is different to breaking their 'rules' deliberately. If you see what I mean. I'm also not really bothered by the fact that pictures have been published before without a fuss or that some muslims don't mind (good for them & I imagine they are the majority) because I expect there are some who didn't react so violently yet still didn't like it. Just because something has been done before seldom makes it automatically ok to do again (we'd all be kinda screwed if so)

The reaction was out of proportion to the "crime" (yes, I realise it wasn't one... you know my ability to use English correctly is minimal!) I agree. I'm just standing up for those few who didn't make a fuss but are hurt by such actions (I guess by the actions of both parties in truth).

ok I failed.. that wasn't more coherent but I don't have time to check & rewrite it now as I have exciting (!) careers talks to go to... :s
